da barbershops

Welp, here is what I've been working on for the past month or so. In my portfolio class, I chose to do a documentary on eastside barbershops in Lubbock... SO MUCH FUN! I did get some interesting looks and hesitant participants, but after spending lots o time with these peeps, they started warming up to me and realized what I was doing.
And this is why I chose the barbershop deal...
During my freshman year we went to E's barbershop to get some braids ( i'm still not sure why we did that...) and while we were there, we realized that people who go to barbershops on the eastside have a stinkin good time. It's a social place. People go there after work or after school just to hang out, whether they're getting their hair cut or not. It just fascinated me. So, that led me to this portfolio! And after people realized that I had good intentions and I just loved the way they live life together, the tall white girl stopped getting dirty looks and now we're all friends :)

jolly jenny

I tell you what... This girl is one of the most laid-back, fun loving, Christ following girls I know. This is Jenny, and during the past three years of knowing her, I have been reminded to enjoy life more.
Here are some shots from our little fun-in-the-sun-session...my attempt at senior pics :)

here goes nothin!

hello to all you bloggers out there! (see, I already feel like a nerd)

I've got to admit... It has taken me quite some time to actually sign up for this blogspot dealy and I'll tell you all why.
I like to journal quite a bit. And when I run out of pages in a journal, all these new thoughts about my new journal come into play... what kind, what size, lines or no lines... (I'm not OCD, I swear). So, when I finally begin writing in my new journal, I freak myself out by thinking I'm turning over this new leaf in the life of Brittany Schultze, when really... I just ran out of paper.

I say that to say this. Maybe I view this too much as a documentation of the depths of my soul, when really... It's just a fun way to share my work with all of you! And that, my friends, is what I'm pretty stoked about. I have been bigtime encouraged by photographers in and around Lubbock, and looking at their blogs and viewing their latest work pumps me up and just makes me want to shoot.

So... my goal? Well, I could only hope that my work and my words might stir the excitement within peeps and that their appreciation for life and beauty would deepen as I attempt to capture it with my neglected, abused camera.

With that said, I think I'll just post some photos from this summer. I went to Guanajuato, Mexico on a travel photography trip with Texas Tech. We were set loose in the city for ten days and we shot our faces off. It was... freeing! and if you have any tips, send 'em my way! enjoy :)
